About
Built by people who missed real dates.
The story
LoverSpot started with a frustration anyone who's used a dating app knows: a hundred matches, twenty conversations, two dates a year. We're not the first to notice the problem. We are, we think, the first to fix it at the structural level.
In late 2023, the two of us sat down and counted our first dates from the year. The total came to four. Between us. From maybe 3,000 matches. The math was indefensible. Something was broken — not with us individually, but with the product layer that was supposed to make it easier.
We started LoverSpot to build the app we wished existed — one that does the hard part with you. The first version shipped in March 2024 in Casablanca. Six weeks later it spread to Rabat. Six months in, it was in 12 countries. Today: 84.
What we believe
The product principle
Every feature has to clear a single bar: does it help two people actually meet? If yes, we ship it. If no — even when it would boost engagement or revenue — we don't. That's killed more features than it's launched.
On dating apps generally
Most are optimized for the wrong thing. They maximize time-in-app, swipes, paid features. We optimize for time-to-first-date and date completion rate. We measure ourselves on the rate of "matched on Sunday, sitting at a table together by next weekend."
On the date itself
Coffee is fine. Coffee is also lazy. The first date should be a real moment — somewhere small enough to talk, lit well enough to see each other, busy enough to feel safe. That's why our Date Spots program exists, and why we let local editors say no to roughly four in five venues they check.
The team
We're 38 people across 13 cities. Casablanca is our HQ, London is our second hub. We have a small Tokyo office for Asia-Pacific operations and we're opening a Mexico City office in the second half of 2026.
Roughly half of us came from product roles at companies you've heard of — Hinge, Bumble, Booking.com, Vinted, Spotify, Notion. The other half came from places that taught them what we actually care about: hospitality, editorial, trust & safety, and small consumer startups that shipped fast.
Our trust & safety team is in-house and works in three languages. We don't outsource moderation.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data. Not to advertisers. Not to brokers. Not under any circumstances.
- We don't use dark patterns. Cancellation is two taps. Pause is two taps. We don't manipulate.
- We don't optimize for time-in-app. The right outcome is you leaving for a real date.
- We don't pretend safety is optional. Verified profiles, in-app safety check-in, video before meeting — these aren't premium features.
