Why LoverSpot

Built for the bit they leave out.

Most dating apps optimize for the swipe. We optimize for the date. This page is the long version — the problem, the principle, the proof.

The problem

Dating apps are optimized for the wrong thing.

Time-in-app. Swipes per session. Premium conversion. Every metric that matters to the business — and none of the ones that matter to you.

industry surveys

"We didn't believe the problem was the people. We believed it was the product layer between them."

The principle

Every feature has to clear a single test.

Does this help two people actually meet? If yes, we ship it. If no — even if it would boost engagement, retention, or revenue — we don't. That single rule has killed more features than it has launched: infinite scrolling feeds, dopamine notifications, swipe streaks, leaderboards, social-graph mining, all of it. Gone.

"We measure ourselves on the rate of "matched on Sunday, sitting at a table together by next weekend." That number is the only number that matters."

— Achraf Benfdela, CEO

What we do differently

Four decisions no one else has made.

01

We book the date inside the app

Tap the calendar icon in any chat. Pick a vetted venue, a date, a time. The other person confirms with one tap. The date goes on both calendars. No texting back-and-forth for nine days about "are you free this week?". No second-guessing. No drift.

Proof

Median time from match to confirmed date: 38 hours. On other apps, the median is over 4 weeks — when a date happens at all.

02

We curate venues with local editors

Our local editors visit every venue we list — in person, before it goes live. We score on conversation quality, light, noise, and whether the staff lets you stay an extra hour. We reject roughly four in five venues we check. That's the bar.

Proof

13 cities curated as of June 2026. 380 venues vetted in person. 78 added. The rest were rejected for being too loud, too dim, too rushed, or too generic.

03

We make video calls the default, not the exception

Before any first date, a 15-minute in-app video call. Both people opt in. Either side can end at any moment. No phone numbers shared. It catches catfish accounts, gives both people a real sense of the other, and rules out the 30% of matches that would have been an awkward dinner.

Proof

62% of our members do a video call before their first in-person date. That's up from 8% on legacy apps. We think this is the single biggest safety improvement in dating apps since photo verification.

04

We follow up after the date

Ninety minutes after a scheduled date, a private in-app check-in: How did it go? Are you OK? Real humans review concerning responses within an hour. We never share with the other person whether or how you replied. We do this for every single date.

Proof

94% of users respond to the post-date check-in. Reports of unsafe venues lead to removal within 24 hours. We've removed 23 venues this year for that reason.

Feature by feature

Compared to the apps you've tried.

We're not better at swiping — we're trying to do something else. Here's exactly how we differ from the apps that defined the category.

What we measure

The numbers we live and die by.

Most apps publish DAU. We publish date-completion rate. We think the difference says everything.

What we don't do

The anti-features we deliberately killed.

Every product gets pressured to add these. We've said no, on purpose, repeatedly.

✕

Infinite scrolling discovery feed

Choice paralysis kills connection. We cap the feed at a sustainable batch per day.

✕

Streak counters and gamification

Dating is not a game. Pressuring you to log in daily is the opposite of what we want.

✕

Read receipts on free tier

The anxiety isn't worth the engagement bump. (You can enable them on Gold if you want.)

✕

Visible last-seen

Optional — and off by default. We don't optimize for jealousy or surveillance.

✕

Selling your data

Not to advertisers, not to brokers, not under any circumstances. Period.

✕

Three-tap cancellation flow

Cancellation is two taps. We don't punish people for leaving.

Members on us

What people actually say.

"First app that made me feel like the goal wasn't more matches — it was a real night out with someone interesting. I had three dates in my first month here. I had three in two years on the last one."

— Mariam, 31, Casablanca

"The in-app video calls saved me an entire wasted Saturday more than once. I'd be in love with the photos and then five minutes in I'd know it wasn't going to work. That's not a bad thing."

— Antoine, 34, Paris

"I'd given up on dating apps. A friend showed me LoverSpot. The booking flow was the difference — I just needed someone to take the back-and-forth off my plate. Six months in, I'm seeing someone I really like."

— Sophie, 29, London

Be honest with yourself

Who LoverSpot is — and isn't — for.

For you, if…

If you recognize yourself here, you'll love it.

  • ✓ You're done with apps that feel like a treadmill
  • ✓ You'd rather have fewer matches and more actual dates
  • ✓ You think where you meet someone matters as much as who
  • ✓ You'd do a quick video before a first in-person date
  • ✓ You want a product team that gives a damn about safety

Probably not, if…

If this is you, you'll bounce. That's OK.

  • ✕ You want the highest possible match volume regardless of quality
  • ✕ You're not looking for in-person dates
  • ✕ You're under 18 (we'll catch it; please don't try)
  • ✕ You're looking for a hookup-only platform
  • ✕ You're not willing to verify your identity

See the difference.

Free to download. Free to match. Free to start. You'll know within a week why this feels different.
