How it works

From match to dinner in three taps.

Most apps stop at the match. We rebuilt the entire flow around the part they leave out: actually agreeing on when and where, and showing up.

By the numbers

What this actually delivers.

Match like a human, not a swipe

Step one

01

Match like a human, not a swipe

Most dating starts with "hey" — the cheapest possible message, the easiest to ignore. We don't have hey.

Every LoverSpot profile has a specific prompt — a question, an opinion, a story-starter. The way you message a profile is by replying to one of those prompts. That's it. No empty hellos. Your first message is already a conversation.

Opening Moves

Tap any prompt on a profile to reply directly. Your reply lands in their chat as the start of a real exchange — not a notification that says "someone sent you hey."

Photo-by-photo likes

You can like a specific photo. They see exactly which one moved you. It's the difference between "someone liked me" and "someone liked this one moment from a Tuesday in Lisbon."

Like-first, match-back

When you like someone, they see it. If they like you back, you match. No swiping past each other in the dark.

Proof

Average first message length on LoverSpot: 38 words. On legacy apps: 6.

See them before you meet them

Step two

02

See them before you meet them

After 4–5 messages, you'll have a sense of whether you want to spend an evening with this person. Before you book that dinner, verify it.

From inside the chat, request a video call. Both people opt in. Fifteen minutes is the default — extend together if you want. No phone numbers shared. No Zoom links. No platform-jumping. Just a real face, a real voice, fifteen minutes.

Why before, not after

The video catches catfish accounts, gives both people a real sense of chemistry, and rules out the 30% of matches that would have been an awkward dinner. It also gives shy people a low-stakes way to test the water.

Either side can hang up

No questions asked. We don't track who hung up first. We don't penalize anyone for ending a call early. "Not for me" is a complete sentence.

Built-in safety controls

If something feels off, one tap reports the call. The other person never knows. Concerning calls are reviewed by our safety team within an hour.

Proof

62% of LoverSpot first-in-person dates start with a video call. Industry average: 8%.

Book the date inside the app

Step three

03

Book the date inside the app

This is the part every other app drops you on. The reason 73% of matches never meet. We fixed it.

Tap the calendar icon in any chat. Pick a venue from our curated list — or your own spot. Pick a date. Pick a time. Send. The other person confirms with one tap. The date goes on both calendars with the location, a map link, and a notification 2 hours before. The hard part is done.

Curated venues, vetted in person

Our local editors visit every place we list. We score on conversation quality, light, noise, and whether the staff lets you stay an extra hour. We reject roughly 4 in 5 venues we check.

Reschedule once, free

Either party can reschedule once with no penalty, up to 4 hours before. Plans change. We get it.

Calendar handoff

Adds to iCal, Google Calendar, Outlook. With the venue address, a map link, a reminder, and a way to message in-app from inside the calendar event.

Proof

Median time from "hey, want to grab coffee?" to "confirmed for Tuesday at 7": 38 hours.

Safety, the part nobody else builds

Step four

04

Safety, the part nobody else builds

Verification, scam detection, a post-date check-in. We treat safety as the design constraint, not the marketing checkbox.

Every profile is photo-verified at signup — a quick selfie matched against your photos by Google MediaPipe. Every chat is monitored for scam patterns (money requests, off-platform redirects, urgency phrases). Every date triggers an in-app safety check-in 90 minutes after the scheduled time: How did it go? Are you OK?

Photo verification at signup

Quick selfie. Compared against your profile photos. Selfie is deleted after verification. Anyone not verified can't enter the discover feed.

Real-time scam detection

Messages mentioning common scam patterns (Western Union, crypto wallets, off-platform urgency) get an in-line warning before they're delivered. We catch most. We don't catch all. Trust your instincts.

Post-date check-in

Ninety minutes after a scheduled date, a private in-app prompt: How did it go? Are you OK? Concerning responses get a human review within an hour. We never share with the other person whether or how you replied.

One-tap block and report

From any screen. Blocks are silent — they never know. Reports go to in-house trust & safety staff within 24 hours. We don't outsource this.

Proof

94% of users respond to the post-date check-in. 23 venues removed this year for safety reports.

Behind the scenes

How the matching actually works.

Most apps treat the algorithm like a trade secret. Here's ours, in plain English.

We start with what you told us

Age range, distance, gender preferences, relationship intentions, religion-importance, smoking, kids. Hard filters — if you set them, we honor them. No "we know better."

Then we add what you've shown us

Who you've liked, who you've messaged longer, who you've video-called, who you've actually met. Strong signals matter more than weak ones. A first date counts more than a like.

We weight by reciprocity

We show you people likely to like you back, not just people you might like. One-way crushes are bad for everyone. Reciprocal interest is the central metric.

We cap the feed

You see a finite batch per day. Choice paralysis kills connection. Premium tier gets a curated daily Top Pick on top — not infinite, just better.

We explain why

Tap any match to see why we suggested them. Shared prompts, similar cities, mutual interests, second-degree friend overlap (anonymous). No black box.

Premium doesn't beat the algorithm

Paid tiers get reach and speed boosts, not algorithmic favoritism. We're not pay-to-win.

Your first week

What the first seven days look like.

Most people are on their first in-person date by day 8. Here's the typical arc.

  1. Day 1

    Sign up & verify

Phone number + OTP + selfie verification. 60 seconds. You're in.

  2. Day 1–2

    Build your profile

6 photos, 3 prompt answers, preferences. Aim for 20 minutes. The strongest profiles include something specific and a real laugh.

  3. Day 2–3

    Start matching

Discovery feed opens once verified. Like specific photos and answer specific prompts. Your first match usually comes within hours of finishing your profile.

  4. Day 3–5

    First conversations

Opening Moves replace "hey." Most matches go to 6–10 messages on day one. Real conversation, not interview.

  5. Day 4–6

    Video call

After 4–5 messages with someone you like, request a video call. 15 minutes. The 30% chemistry-check that would have been a dinner is no longer a dinner.

  6. Day 6–8

    First in-person date

Book it from the chat. Curated venue. Confirmed in two taps. Calendar invites in two inboxes.

What people ask

Questions we hear most.

Do I have to do a video call before meeting?

No. We strongly recommend it, but it's never required. You can move straight to an in-person date if both people agree. The video is an option, not a gate.

What if I want to suggest a venue not in your list?

Use "Suggest your own spot" in the date booking flow. Pick any location with a verifiable address. Just know that venues outside our curated list don't have the same vetting — read reviews, pick well-trafficked places.

How does the algorithm decide who I see?

Your stated preferences are hard filters. Within those, we weight by reciprocal-interest probability — people likely to like you back. See the "Behind the scenes" section above for the full breakdown.

What happens if someone doesn't respond to the date proposal?

You can withdraw it from the chat. We send them a single reminder 24 hours after you propose. Beyond that, we don't pester anyone. Silence is an answer.

Can I use LoverSpot if I'm traveling?

Yes. Set your location to a city you're visiting and you'll see profiles there. Distance ranges work normally. We don't block sudden city changes — we welcome them. Date someone in Madrid next week if you want.

Is this only for serious relationships?

No. People here are looking for everything from a first real coffee to a marriage. You tell us what you want during onboarding and we match accordingly. We don't judge intentions, we just don't pretend they don't matter.

What if my date goes badly?

The post-date check-in catches it. If you mark it as bad, we follow up within an hour. We can block the other person automatically, preserve evidence for any legal process, and remove the venue if it contributed to the problem. You're not alone.
