Safety

Safety, designed in.

The principle

Safety isn't a feature we bolt on. It's the design constraint we work backwards from. Every product decision goes through the same test: does this make the experience safer for the people who use it? If no — even if it would boost engagement or revenue — we don't ship it.

Below is a plain-English summary of what that looks like in practice. For the detailed rulebook, see our community guidelines and safety guide.

Verified profiles

Every new member uploads a selfie when they sign up. Our system compares it against their profile photos. If they don't match, the account doesn't enter the discover feed — period. We use Google MediaPipe for face detection plus our own model trained on intentional spoofing attempts.

We don't use this data for anything else. Selfies are deleted after verification, not retained for face recognition or sold to anyone.

Block and report from anywhere

One tap on any profile, message, photo, or video card. You can block silently — they don't know — and you'll never see them again. Reports go through the same screen.

A real human reviews every report within 24 business hours, in English, French, or Spanish. We don't outsource moderation to a third party — our trust and safety team is in-house, in Casablanca and London.

Video before the date

We strongly recommend a quick in-app video call before meeting in person — usually 10-15 minutes. It catches catfish accounts that slip past photo verification, and it gives you a sense of whether you'll click before investing an evening.

The video happens entirely inside LoverSpot. No phone numbers shared, no Zoom links, no platform switching. Both parties have to confirm. Either side can end it at any time.

Date in the open

Our Date Spots venues are vetted by local editors who visit each place in person. We prefer venues that are busy enough to feel comfortable, lit well enough to see your date, and small enough that the staff knows when something feels off.

If anything happens at a venue — a safety incident, a creepy interaction, anything — we hear about it within hours. Venues with reports are removed immediately and reviewed by our editors.

After the date

Ninety minutes after a scheduled date, we send a private in-app check-in: How did it go? Are you OK? If you mark anything wrong, our safety team follows up within an hour.

If you don't respond to the check-in within four hours, we send a follow-up. We never share with the other person whether or how you replied.

Partners we work with

We don't pretend to know everything. We partner with organizations who've done this for decades:

  • NCMEC (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children) — for child safety reporting in the US
  • INHOPE — international child safety network
  • NetSafe — online safety partner
  • CNDP Morocco — data protection authority
  • RAINN — sexual assault support referrals in the US
  • Local equivalents in every market we operate in
